  1. From Bai Ding on Jackie Chan:

The comment that Jackie Chan made enraged many Chinese. Foreigners might agree as we have all heard of the racially derogatory remark: "Chinese fire drills". But I won't take him too seriously because he is just a rich actor. He is not well educated and not much of a speaker. He forgot his days as one of the Seven Fortunes 七小福. He forgot what kind of fortune he has had under a free society. I wasn't that bothered by his memory lapses. But his clumsy attempt to kiss up to the Communist Chinese regime reminded me of something that really troubled me. It just reminded me of how the whole world is up to these days. Everyone is kissing up to a regime that openly and blatantly denies, rejects and belittles freedom and its value. The New York World Trade Center that was being rebuilt was originally named the Freedom Tower. That name has been dropped after a Chinese firm leased one of its floors.

Memory lapse is one thing. To outright kiss asses is another. We all remember what happened. To remember what happened does not mean we don't look forward. Remembering the dark days doesn't me we are ignoring the bright future. The world is changed not by those learned intellectuals who keep on thinking and commenting. It will be changed only by those who have passion and conscience. Abe Lincoln said, "No one can escape history." History is like a pair of eyes. They are looking at you even though you are not looking at them.

I always go where ten thousands won't. As April 29th is approaching, I remember a woman. Yes, a young woman who died on this day in 1968. I have a true story to tell. You might have heard of her but let me tell you what I know about her.

  2. Continued.

What happened was that his new film was banned in China. He was trying to please the Chinese in order to have it released.

He said in the 博鰲 forum, "I'm not sure if it's good to have freedom or not. I'm really confused now. If you're too free, you're like the way Hong Kong is now. It's very chaotic. Taiwan is also chaotic. I'm gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be tightly controlled. If we're not being controlled, we'll just do what we want."
